Hello, Hennepin Avenue!

MCR PURCHASES AND OPENS THE CHAMBERS HOTEL IN DOWNTOWN MINNEAPOLIS NEAR THE TARGET CENTER AND TARGET FIELD

The nation’s 4th-largest hotel owner-operator acquires The Chambers Hotel in downtown Minneapolis and opens its doors to guests.

June 28, 2021

It’s quite a showstopper! MCR — the country’s 4th-largest hotel owner-operator — has acquired the 60-room The Chambers Hotel on 9th Street and Hennepin Avenue in downtown Minneapolis’s historic theater district.

MCR rebranded the hotel, formerly a Le Meridien, as an independent property, complete with a new logo and website. The logo, which has a simple, modern C, is a nod to the hotel’s name and the building’s shape. Throughout the hotel, design features incorporate double Cs in celebration of its home in the Twin Cities!

Built in 1908, The Chambers Hotel is now open after being closed for nearly a year. And not a moment too soon! Just around the corner, the Target Center, one of the world’s top arenas visited by 1 million people per year, is hosting the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx games and WWE Presents Friday Night Smackdown on July 30. A five-minute walk away, MLB’s Minnesota Twins are playing ball at Target Field. Watch them take on the Chicago White Sox and the Detroit Tigers in early July!

The legendary Orpheum Theatre directly across the street — which has hosted groundbreaking performances from the Marx Brothers’ vaudeville act to The Lion King’s debut — is preparing for one of its biggest seasons yet. Disney’s Frozen breaks the ice with performances starting October 7. Oklahoma! brings a beautiful mornin’ in November (yes, everything’s goin’ our way!).

Just up Hennepin on Theater Row, Toad the Wet Sprocket makes a splash at the Pantages Theater on September 9 (we will not take these things for granted!). And the rock-country group The Mavericks play the restored State Theatre October 1.

After the final encore, make a play for The Chambers Hotel. The large, art-infused guestrooms and suites have walk-in rain showers, deep soaking tubs and dramatic views of the vibrant downtown. Live out your own personal balcony scene in the 1,100-square-feet Spotlight Suite penthouse — it boasts 1.5 bathrooms (including heated floors), a separate living area and a wraparound terrace.

Looking to play the lead at your own event? The Chambers has more than 12,500 square feet of event space — including a lush courtyard with a fire pit overlooking Hennepin Avenue, a blank-canvas gallery that awaits your creative touches and a boardroom with expert audiovisual services.

The 3,000-square-foot rooftop lounge is a true stunner, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a terrace overlooking Hennepin Avenue. A full bar, customizable lighting and stereo sound get the party started.

The hotel also has a warm, inviting restaurant and bar — previously operated by world-renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten — and MCR is seeking a restaurateur to reinvent the space. Interested? Contact Tony Strauss at Transwestern (Tony.Strauss@transwestern.com) for more information.

Entertain yourself by taking the city’s skyway just steps from our door to U.S. Bank Stadium and the Mississippi River. Tour the locations where Minneapolis native Prince filmed his 1984 blockbuster Purple Rain, starting with First Avenue nightclub around the corner. And grab a selfie at Eduardo Kobra’s five-story mural of hometown hero Bob Dylan on 5th and Hennepin (fun fact: he once owned the Orpheum Theatre)!

Though our neighborhood does steal the show in Minneapolis, there’s so much to see in the Mill City. Located just 15 minutes from Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport and a short 10-minute drive across the Mississippi River to the University of Minnesota, The Chambers puts you in the center of it all. Visit the Walker Art Center, the Mall of America and the Mill City Museum, which recounts the city’s history powering flour.
